Oregon Wanderings – Mar. 18, 2007

Mutnomah Falls LodgeOregon Wanderings, as I’ll be calling this occasional entry, is a brief and rough journal of travels I sometimes make around the state with my wife and/or others. The purpose of these entries will not be to provide in-depth reviews of locations visited, but rather snapshots of ideas for places you might find worth a stop off at if you are in the area. This first entry is related to a trip my wife, an out of town friend and I took on Sunday:

  • Oswego Hills Winery (West Linn) – Fun converted barn tasting room, enjoyed tastes of Pinot Gris and Tempranillo Port.
  • McMenamins Edgefield (Troutdale) – Amazing, funky resort property McMenamins made out of a poor farm. Stopped off to pick up a bottle of their on-site distilled brandy. Wife got some tasty tater tots to go from one of their several on-site dining establishments.
  • Draper’s Farm (Parkdale) – On Highway 35 as you head up towards Mt. Hood. Stopped off for self serve (i.e. you pick out of bin and leave money on honor system) apples. Went into back cooler room to choose from nice variety of apples and pears – very pleasant fruit odor in cold storage area.
  • Multnomah Falls Lodge (Off Interstate 84) – On way back from Mt. Hood area stopped off at Multnomah Falls Lodge for random dinner. Very impressed by quality of Pacific Northwest menu – attention to local, fresh ingredients. Nice dining room with great views of Multnomah Falls.
